One of the amazing opportunities I was given at Apple was to spearhead the company’s first dedicated market development efforts focused on music. The catch was that I first needed to evangelize the idea, raise a budget, and enlist a diverse set of groups around the company - engineering, legal, marketing, business development. I did. Then with the right internal and external partners on board, we developed and executed on marketing, media, partnerships, and launch.

In less than a year, a small scrappy, and often stubborn team enabled Apple to achieve its goal of market leadership - and a significant return on its initial marketing investment. Many technologies and relationships with artists and influencers that were first formed during this time set the stage later for significant developments in the areas of non-linear editing, virtual events, AR and VR, podcasts, as well as the streaming distribution of audio and video content.
